Cosmetics Fail

Dear Adam,

We love your dye-job, nails and guyliner (though you really don't need to hide the freckles, honey). The blue streaks are fabulous in all that anime hair, and the dark polish is very you. We just want to be sure you know what you're putting on that body, because the cosmetics industry's safety record is made of epic fail. Formaldehyde, tolulene, mercury, lead ... Sexy.

Skin Deep is the place to go for a report card on your favorite brands. A rating of 10 is the worst. Anything more than a 7 is dangerous territory. The makeup list is extensive, with plenty of options below a 5 on the scale, though not much you can find in your local CVS.

OPI's reformulated nail polish seems to be pretty safe. (Click on About OPI -> OPI Cares). The poorly rated colors on Skin Deep seem to be pre-reformulation.

Aveda hair color averages a 5 on the scale. Not great, but not terrible, either. Plus, they're cruelty-free.
